Employee Spotlight: Olivia Guthrow
At Continental Underwriters, Inc., our mission is to stand out as a company that offers quality, passion, and expertise to the insurance industry. We do this through a close-knit team made up of caring, skilled professionals – and we want you to get to know them!
This month we’re spotlighting Underwriting Analyst Team Lead, Olivia Guthrow, who was recently featured as one of Insurance Business America’s Rising Stars!
While in college at VCU pursuing her bachelor’s in risk management, Olivia joined our Risk Assessment department and learned the ins and outs of wood products insurance from department director Corey Bounds. That foundation in risk assessment brings a valuable dimension to her underwriting role in that she truly understands the nuance (and potential costs) associated with a claim, and can therefore provide greater understanding and protection with the right policy levels for each client.
Olivia was recognized in this year’s Rising Star crop for the impact she’s driving when it comes to diversity and inclusion in what’s historically been a male-driven industry. As an organization, Continental Underwriters is committed to giving its employees a voice in decisions at every level. In order to drive that, we’re constantly adapting and incorporating unique perspectives – through a gender, racial and religious lens – at every level, so that we can influence everything from organizational culture to the future of our industry.
Olivia is helping to drive that charge at Continental Underwriters, involving herself in internal culture conversations and encouraging coworkers to do the same. She’s also an advocate with peers in the industry, encouraging them to value the skills and unique perspective they bring to the table, even if they are new to the industry. We see her example as a critical step, and an example for peer organizations, as the makeup of the insurance industry continues to evolve.
The Insurance Business Industry’s report showcases young, notable players making an impact through diversity, fresh perspectives, and professionalism. Congratulations to Olivia for the recognition! Click here to see her feature in the magazine on page 24.
