2020 Reflections- What a Year
This year was unlike any other. While there have been numerous roadblocks and restrictions placed on each of us, we stayed committed to improving and challenging the status quo. We asked our team members to reflect on the highs, lows, and everything in between.
Just like years past, we received incredible responses showing a positive company culture, passion for the industry, and unwavering dedication to our customer’s success. Some even embraced the virtual change 2020 brought us and submitted their response with video.
We are excited to share our compilation video and quotes below of the lessons our Continental family learned the experiences we gained, and game-changers that improved our mindset to carry us all into 2021 better together.
“Believe it or not, my favorite memory of 2020 is when we transitioned the entire company to working remotely. The circumstances, of course, were not good but the way our entire team came together and made the transition seamlessly was incredibly impressive. It proved that with the right team, you can accomplish anything. I continue to be so proud to be a member of this amazing team!”
– Amanda Huang, Chief Operating Officer
“2020 was a challenging year for everyone, I loved the way our team tackled the challenge head-on and didn’t miss a beat when things shut down in March. Nobody I would rather have by my side when things get tough. Good work, CU!”
– Andrew Belcher, Production Underwriting Team Leader
“Here’s to hoping 2021 moves masks back to Halloween and Covid is a word that stays in 2020.”
– Bernie Kurtzweil, Underwriting Director
“This year has been a whirlwind, but in the end I know we have come out stronger. What we thought would be a two week working from home experience, turned into 5 months of working from home. Without skipping a beat every single person took this challenge head-on and crushed it. We had an amazing year and we learned a lot about just how much we
can accomplish no matter what comes our way!”
– Kristie Smith, Underwriting Analyst Team Lead
“2020 has been a year to remember, but also a year of thanksgiving. If I’ve learned anything from 2020, it is that I cannot take life for granted. Although there have been a lot of challenges throughout the year, we must hold true to those things that matter the most. No one is guaranteed success or health, but we must remind ourselves of the things that are most important in life. Our faith, our families, and our way of life may be challenged, but 2020 has taught me to be thankful for each day. I consider myself to be blessed to live in the greatest country in the world and to work for a great company. I’m looking forward to the challenges of 2021!”
– Corey Bounds, Director of Risk Assessment Services
“The highlight for me going through this weird, strange year was everyone returning to the office this summer and being able to have in-person conversations and get the joy back that you feel from seeing your work family every day. Doing what we do and the way we do it, it is critical to be able to round table decision-making, bounce things off of various people, and that can be extremely tough when you can’t just walk down the hall to someone’s office and have a conversation. Getting everyone back and being able to spend time with people both for work, and to socialize and reconnect was an extremely exciting upside for me this year.”
– Woody Stanchina, Production Underwriter
“This year showed us that we are an extremely adaptable team and can get business done in a tough time.”
– Will Moore, Underwriting Analyst
“I have learned a tremendous amount in my time with Continental Underwriters, Inc. I love being able to learn more about insurance and wood products manufacturing simultaneously. 2020 has proven that we are a very nimble company, capable of dealing with great challenges and still able to produce results for our partners at a high level. I look forward to being able to grow both as an employee and a person with this company in the future.”
– Alex Ray, Underwriting Analyst
“My favorite memory of 2020 was joining Continental Underwriters, Inc. and becoming part of an incredible team. Even in these socially distant times, the CU team makes sure to stay connected and upbeat as we take care of our clients.”
– Shelbie Barker, Underwriting Technician
“This has been a year full of twists and turns for us all. I am most thankful to have joined such a resilient company in the year 2020. I have learned the true benefit of having a team that is always willing to rise to the challenge. We have such a hardworking and supportive group. I do not believe we would have been as successful without each and every person, and the role they play. We will continue to adapt and grow through all the changes and see what 2021 has in store!”
